With a vast icefield in the mountains behind town, Juneau is a good place to go flightseeing. Until just a few years ago the downtown excursion floatplanes were de Havilland Beavers, a totally great plane, but powered by noisy radial gas engines. These turbine powered Otters, the Cadillac of single-engine floatplanes, are much quieter, much to the relief of Juneau and Douglas residents. |
