Small Craft Route - Boat Bluff Lighthouse - Mile 439

This lighthouse is at the southern entrance to what I have nicknamed "The Northern Canyons," - the winding narrow channels through the heart of British Columbia. This stretch - Tolmie Channel, Graham Reach, Fraser Reach, and especially Grenville Channel, winds among steep mountains, truly seeming like a canyon. Before cruise ships got really large, this was the route all ships took. But unfortunately, the turn here is too tight for the biggest ships, so today most ships take a much more boring route up Hecate Strait, for the most part, out of sight of land. A few of the medium sized ships still take this route, so if yours does, consider yourself lucky..

If you want to experience this part of the traditional Inside Passage, your best bet is either the Alaska State ferries, the B.C. ferries, or smaller cruise ships operated by Lindblad Expeditions and others.
